Anthony Biglan, Ph.D.
Senior Scientist
Oregon Research Institute
The Oregon Research Institute (ORI) website (www.ori.org)
reports that its research scientists, including Tony Biglan,
are principals of a nonprofit research institute dedicated
to enhancing lives by focusing on the study of human behavior
and development of programs to improve the health and well
being of individuals, families and communities. Through
rigorous scientific investigations, ORI research scientists
study topics related to children with behavioral problems,
adults with chronic physical illness, substance abuse and
depression experienced by adolescents. ORI research fosters
greater understanding of the causes, prevention, and treatment
of social and medical problems, ultimately enhancing quality
of life and productivity for people of all ages.
Dr. Biglan will present a vision of what society might
be like if PBS were widely adopted. He will describe the
evolution of cultural innovations that became standard practice,
such as sanitation and compulsory education. He will then
analyze the steps that are needed for PBS to become a routine
practice. Those steps include, strengthening the empirical
evidence for PBS and creating a network of organizations
that support the continuing refinement of PBS.
